
Baseball Wins Pitchers' Duel over Morehead State, Completes Sweep
COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team won a 1-0 pitchers’ duel over Morehead State Sunday afternoon (March 9) to complete a three-game sweep of the Eagles.
Carolina scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the fifth. Talmadge LeCroy led off with a walk. He went to second on Jordan Carrion’s sacrifice bunt and to third on Henry Kaczmar’s groundout. Nathan Hall then singled to right to bring LeCroy home.
The story of the game was the pitching, as Carolina allowed just four hits on the day. Jackson Soucie picked up the win, striking out a pair and allowing a hit in two innings. Tyler Pitzer fanned four, allowing a hit in three innings of relief. Brendan Sweeney picked up his fourth save of the season, striking out a pair in the ninth. Dylan Eskew pitched three scoreless frames in a start, striking out a batter and allowing a hit.
Hall had two hits to lead Carolina’s offense.
POSTGAME NOTES
- The last time Carolina won a 1-0 game was on Feb. 25, 2023, in a win over Penn.
- Hall moved his batting average to .400 after his two-hit performance.
